Understanding the DoD interim rule amending the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) regarding Network Penetration Reporting.

This interim rule requires contractors and subcontractors to report cyber incidents that result in an actual or potentially adverse effect on a covered contractor information system or covered defense information residing therein, or on a contractor’s ability to provide operationally critical support. This rule will apply to all contractors with covered defense information transiting their information systems. DoD estimates that this rule may apply to 10,000 contractors and that less than half of those are small businesses.
